I am not a fan of resolutions. It’s not that I don’t keep them or even have trouble keeping them. Well, no more than most folks, I guess. It’s the reflection that I don’t really like. The turning of the mirror inward and taking that long, lingering look for flaws that need pruning. It’s vulgar. Narcissistic. As if I need any more of that. Yeah, right.
I think this year will be about building out “System 2”. I want System 2 to be a low-power rig, if I can pull it together. I have a pair of Tekton Pendragons that just showed up tomorrow — they may make the cut (or not), but I also have some Vaughns showing up this year, too. We’ll see what shakes out there, but I think a low-powered system will be a nice counterpoint to the Plinius-Magnepan powerhouse.
Speaking of the Maggies, I’m concerned about my 3.7s will feel like they’re inadequate. Yeah. That’s it. I do wonder if the 20.7s, which I predict will make their debut next week at CES, will sound “that much better” that I’m going to feel compelled to upgrade. Given my state of audiophilia, I’m not even sure it’s possible to know that to any degree of comfort. Might have to take the plunge. [sigh]. But aside from that, I think that the system is as “done” as it’s going to get. I owe more concrete descriptions of all those bits at some point, but I’m just thrilled with the way that sounds.
So, that’s about it for me: System 2. Oh, and maybe the Magnepan 20.7s.
How about you?
