Neil Young’s Pono Off to Big Start on Kickstarter

Pono hit Kickstarter today with a bang. The retail pricing on the new high-resolution portable audio player was set at $400, but the first 100 early birds snapped it up at 50% off. And yes, all those slots are taken.

Next up is the 25% off bucket, and it looks like there’s no cap here.

A very nifty option for the player is the chromed-out, laser-etched signature editions, priced at $400. You can pick from a whole slew of bands to have engraved on your Pono.

Best news yet: Pono will play all your PCM-based (FLAC, ALAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AAC) files, but no word yet on DSD support ….

Which should you buy? Depends. Do you want to listen anywhere other than your rack?
