Oracle quietly rolls out Origine turntable

The all-new Oracle Origine.

Canadian turntable manufacturing legend Oracle – who brought the world the iconic Delphi – released it’s first entirely new design in 25 years a couple months ago with the Origine, which also comes in at a budget-friendly $2,000 USD ($2,700 CAN). I’ve reviewed the company’s last previous all-new design, The Paris, which came out in the mid-90s, and was extremely impressed with it’s performance. The Origine draws on several disparate design cues from other Oracle products: The platter derived from the Paris, the overall shape of the ‘table is Delphi-inspired, and the footers were ported over from their CD player. A two-step, platter-perimeter belt drive is run off a separate, outboard synchronous-AC motor, and a proprietary unipivot tonearm is outfitted with an Ortofon 2M Blue moving-magnet cartridge attached as standard.

From Oracle:

“The new Origine turntable was created with one goal in mind: to answer the historical demand for an affordable, quality built and long-lasting record player from Oracle Audio. Just like our other products the Origine turntable is 100% designed, crafted, and assembled at our factory in Canada. Although the Origine is at the entry point of our line of products, it maintains the high standard of excellence that is expected from Oracle Audio.

The compliance of a phono cartridge, or the “springiness” of the cantilever/motor suspension assembly,  plays an important role with unipivot tonearms.  We address this issue by using a movable arm tube weight that we nicknamed “The Olive” which allows for variance of the tonearm’s effective mass. This adjustability enables a better match of compliance, and effective mass, thus allowing the use of a wide range of phono cartridges with the Origine. The Origine tonearm has internal wiring from Cardas Audio.”
