Technics SL-1210GAE Turntable

Back in the days when Technics SL-1200 turntables ruled the earth, you had a choice when it came to colors. The classic Technics SL-1200 turntables came in gunmetal and chrome and looked as durable and reliable as, well, they actually were. The Technics SL-1210 and SL-1210 mk 2 were basically 1200s gussied up in black and gold. Even though the differences between the original 1200 and the 1210 were supposed to be primarily cosmetic, I’ve heard from a least a few Technics users that the 1210 does, in fact, sound just a wee better. After the introduction of the stunning Technics SL-1200GAE in 2016, and the 1200G turntable I currently use as a reference, it seems entirely predictable to assume a Technics SL-1210GAE would be on the horizon.

And here it is, the new Technics SL-1210GAE turntable–limited edition, of course, and only 1000 will be made. If you’re thinking about buying the Technics SL-1200G after my reading my glowing review of it in The Occasional, consider the new 1210 instead. It’s coming out for $3999, the same price of the SL-1200G, and its value will go way up over the years.

Here are the press releases for the Technics SL-1210GAE turntable:

Here are the specs on both the SL-1210GAE turntable as well as the SU-R400 Reference Integrated Amplifier using distortion canceling technologies and the Advanced Speed Silent Power Supply.

  1. John Darko’s SL-1210GAE announcement also mentioned a custom Nagaoka JT-1210 cartridge. Did Nagaoka withdraw from the deal?
