It’s hard to deny that MBL’s Radialstrahler speakers aren’t a unique specimen in the land of speaker town. The 360 dispersion field creates a decidedly different feel than most of the box-n-driver setups, especially those that fill any audio show in the US. Captured at last year’s Florida Audio Expo (FLAX 2020) MBL’s Jermey Bryan sits down with The Occasional Podcast to fill in some of the gaps for the German based loudspeaker brand.
It’s actually not just fancy futuristic speakers that MBL makes, they also put together 3 full lines of electronics with some of the same ingenuity that graces the high end transducers. Jermey walks listeners through the process, and gives some more interior vantage points for the manufacturer that makes everything in house. He also talks shop with regards to his approach to room setup, as his presentations at audio shows are second to none. The whole sonic affair makes for a must stop, given the opportunity. Luckily enough for show goers (in non-covid times) MBL usually occupies one of the big rooms and isn’t hard to find.
Season four is in full swing for The Occasional Podcast, also available for download is last month’s podcast on the “Loudness Wars” which has been a highlight for the summer. Season three was a memorable one, seeing interviews with such audio legends as Jeff Joseph, Bill Dudleston, Nelson Pass and most recently Rob Watts. We had an amazing response from our last show with Dave exploring all things Mastering, and if you haven’t checked out our beginners guide to reel-to-reel playback, it’s definitely worth a listen.
