A Beginner’s Guide To Digital Audio

The Occasional Podcast: Now on iTunes!

The simplest path to destination isn’t always the best, in digital audio and in life. Summer road trips amidst a pandemic drive the idea home. Sure, you can wake up from a mid flight nap to catch a glimpse of the Rockies as you soar overhead, but anyone who has made the trip through Utah to Colorado knows that there is so much more to see from the 80 MPH speed limits of I-70.

Likewise, you can buy an Amazon speaker for your kitchen and call it digital audio playback. Audiophile’s might offer another trail to blaze. Intentionally seeking out the extra trouble of carefully selecting separate components, match making and fine tuning the chain. In this week’s episode of The Occasional Podcast, we process that path for the uninitiated. From easy starting points to bigger aspirations and larger budgets, we talk our way through the maze 1s and 0s that is the delight and convenience of streaming and file-based sources.

Season four is in full swing for The Occasional Podcast, also available for download is last month’s podcast interview with MBL and don’t forget our take on the “Loudness Wars” which has been a highlight for the summer. Season three was a memorable one, seeing interviews with such audio legends as Jeff Joseph, Bill Dudleston, Nelson Pass and most recently Rob Watts. We had an amazing response from our last show with Dave exploring all things Mastering, and if you haven’t checked out our beginners guide to reel-to-reel playback, it’s definitely worth a listen.

You can stream it all direct from the embed below or subscribe to The Occasional Podcast on your favorite podcast platform including iTunes, AndroidGoogle, Deezer, Spotify, iHeartRadio and more.

Many thanks for tuning in this season, its been a wild ride so far and there are even bigger surprises coming up in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
