It is a new year, and a new season of The Occasional Podcast. The first podcast of 2021 features industry icon Mike Moffat of Theta Digital and Schiit Audio. Scot Hull helps jumpstart the series with an update on his end, and plenty of audio advice from his experience recently relocating his entire playback system to a new location across the country.
For those who are not familiar with Mike Moffat’s portfolio of work, his first company Theta Digital was actually one of the first to design external DACs way back in early CD player days. Now, as a sort of second wave revival in the 2010s, he joined forces with Jason Stoddard of Sumo to form Schiit Audio. That company has grown to be quite a tour de force in the entry-level space, offering up products like the Schiit Modi DAC that starts at $99 for an delta sigma-based chipset. Of course Mike Moffat has designed a custom multi-bit solution as well, and includes those designs all the way up to a flagship digital converter called Yggdrasil ($2,449). The company ships direct and as one might guess from the curious name, is fine tuned into the digital SEO space (co founder Jason also founded a digital ad agency previously).
Season 5 is out with a big start, but also available for download is last season’s interviews with Heinz Lichtenegger, president of Pro-Ject.
