It’s that time of year again, time for Schweinshaxe and Weißwurst and currywurst and unfiltered brown ales. It’s time for High End 2023 in Munich, the world’s largest high-end audio show! I’ll be at High End Munich 2023, although I will be spending a lot of my time covering–once again–the debut of the TIDAL for Bugatti.
Words and Photos by Marc Phillips
If you remember last year, I travelled all the way to Munich to cover the introduction of these stunning loudspeakers–a collaboration between TIDAL Audio, one of the premiere loudspeaker manufacturers in the world, and Bugatti, which makes automobiles. Maybe you’ve heard of them. Unfortunately, a Covid outbreak at the TIDAL Audio factory shortly before the show made the debut impossible, so we all agreed to meet once again at High End Munich 2023. Today, the day before I leave for Munich, all systems are go.
This will be my third trip to Munich. Last year, after the cancellation of the TIDAL for Bugatti event, I wound up covering the largest high-end audio show in the world all by myself. Over the three days of the show, I averaged 20,000 steps per day wandering around. The last day, I topped 25,000 steps–a personal record. I was able to cover the show, but only because High End 2022 was a smaller event than usual because it was the first Munich show after the pandemic. For High End Munich 2023, things should be back to normal, and my coverage won’t be as comprehensive. PTA writer Marc Smazik will also be there, so hopefully he will share what he sees in Munich.
Think about it this way: we had six people at AXPONA 2023 last month, and we still didn’t cover everything we wanted to. Munich is bigger than AXPONA, and it will be just the two Marcs. It will be an adventure, to be sure. But I love this show, meeting all the industry people from all over the world, and seeing/hearing brands I’ve only read about. My coverage will probably begin Saturday or Sunday so I have time to gather my notes and photos before I dig into High End Munich 2023. (On Friday, we’ll publish our review of the Burmester B18 loudspeakers and 101 integrated amplifier.)
Time to pack! See you at High End Munich 2023!
